Grades et promotions

The opportunity for promotion is an important element of the air cadet program. Below are the criteria associated with promotion to each rank, as outlined in CATO 13-02 (Merit-Based Cadet Rank Promotions - Corps/Squadron).

Leading Air Cadet (LAC)

Rank - Leading Air Cadet

To be promoted to the rank of Leading Air Cadet (LAC), cadets must:

  1. have participated in the first year of the Proficiency Level Training Program for a minimum period of five months; and
  2. be recommended by the appropriate Flt Comd.

Cadets who have their progression accelerated to level two shall be promoted to the rank of Leading Air Cadet five months after the date of registration at the squadron. They will be eligible for a promotion to the rank of Corporal upon completing level two. They will then be eligible for additional promotions IAW CATO 13-02.

Promotion au grade de cadet de l’Air première classe (cdt 1):

  1. participer à la première année d’instruction de niveau de qualification pendant au moins cinq mois, et
  2. avoir la recommandation du cmdt son (corps/esc)

Les cadets dont la progression est accélérée au niveau deux seront promus au grade de cadet de l’Air première classe cinq mois après la date de leur inscription à l’escadron. Ils seront éligibles à une promotion au grade de caporal lorsqu’ils complèteront le niveau deux. Ils seront ensuite éligibles à d’autres promotions selon l’OAIC 13-02.

Corporal (Cpl)

Rank -Corporal

To be promoted to the rank of Corporal (Cpl), cadets must:

  1. hold the rank of Leading Air Cadet;
  2. have successfully completed the first year of the Proficiency Level Training Program;
  3. have participated in the Cadet Fitness Assessment as part of PO X04 (Personal Fitness & Healthy Living); and
  4. be recommended by the appropriate Flt Comd.

Cadets who have their progression accelerated to level three shall be promoted to the rank of Corporal five months after the date of registration at the squadron. They will be eligible for a promotion to the rank of Flight Corporal upon completing level three. They will then be eligible for additional promotions IAW CATO 13-02.

Promotion au grade de caporal (cpl):

  1. détenir le grade de cdt 1;
  2. réussir la première année d’instruction de niveau de qualification;
  3. participer à l’Évaluation de la condition physique des cadets dans le cadre de l’OREN X04 (Bonne forme physique et vie saine); et
  4. avoir la recommandation du cmdt son (esc).

Les cadets dont la progression est accélérée au niveau trois seront promus au grade de caporal cinq mois après la date de leur inscription à l’escadron. Ils seront éligibles à une promotion au grade de caporal de section lorsqu’ils complèteront le niveau trois. Ils seront ensuite éligibles à d’autres promotions selon l’OAIC 13-02.

Flight Corporal (FCpl)

Rank - Flight Corporal

To be promoted to the rank of Flight Corporal (FCpl), cadets must:

  1. have completed at least six months of service at the rank of Corporal;
  2. have successfully completed the second year of the Proficiency Level Training Program;
  3. have participated in the Cadet Fitness Assessment as part of PO X04 (Personal Fitness & Healthy Living); and
  4. be recommended by the appropriate Flt Comd.

Promotion au grade de caporal de section (cpl s):

  1. compter au moins six mois de service au grade effectif de caporal;
  2. avoir réussi la deuxième année d’instruction de niveau de qualification;
  3. participer à l’Évaluation de la condition physique des cadets dans le cadre de l’OREN X04 (Bonne forme physique et vie saine); et
  4. avoir la recommandation du cmdt son (esc).

Sergeant (Sgt)

Rank - Sergeant

To be promoted to the rank of Sergeant (Sgt), cadets must:

  1. have completed at least six months of service at the rank of Flight Corporal;
  2. have successfully completed the third year of the Proficiency Level Training Program;
  3. achieved a minimum of "Completed Without Difficulty" in PO 303 (Leadership);
  4. have participated in the Cadet Fitness Assessment as part of PO X04 (Personal Fitness & Healthy Living); and
  5. be recommended by the appropriate Flt Comd.

To be considered for promotion, cadets must also meet the criteria outlined in the Sergeant Promotion Rubric.

Promotion au grade de sergent (sgt):

  1. compter au moins six mois de service au grade effectif de caporal de section;
  2. avoir réussi la troisième année d’instruction de niveau de qualification;
  3. obtenir au moins la mention « Atteint sans difficulté » dans l’OREN 303 (Leadership);
  4. participer à l’Évaluation de la condition physique des cadets dans le cadre de l’OREN X04 (Bonne forme physique et vie saine); et
  5. avoir la recommandation du cmdt son (esc).

Flight Sergeant (FSgt)

Rank - Flight Sergeant

To be promoted to the rank of Flight Sergeant (FSgt), cadets must:

  1. have completed at least six months of service at the rank of Sergeant;
  2. have successfully completed the fourth year of the Proficiency Level Training Program;
  3. achieved a minimum of "Completed Without Difficulty" in PO 403 (Leadership);
  4. have participated in the Cadet Fitness Assessment as part of PO X04 (Personal Fitness & Healthy Living); and
  5. be recommended by the appropriate Flt Comd.

To be considered for promotion, cadets must also meet the criteria outlined in the Flight Sergeant Promotion Rubric.

Promotion au grade de sergent de section (sgt s):

  1. compter au moins six mois de service au grade effectif de sergent;
  2. avoir réussi la quatrième année d’instruction de niveau de qualification;
  3. obtenir au moins la mention « Atteint sans difficulté » dans l’OREN 303 (Leadership);
  4. participer à l’Évaluation de la condition physique des cadets dans le cadre de l’OREN X04 (Bonne forme physique et vie saine); et
  5. avoir la recommandation du cmdt son (esc).

Warrant Officer Second Class (WO2)

Rank - Warrant Officer Second Class

To be promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer 2nd Class (WO2), cadets must:

  1. have completed at least six months of service at the rank of Flight Sergeant;
  2. achieved a minimum of "Completed Without Difficulty" in PO 503 (Leadership);
  3. have participated in the Cadet Fitness Assessment as part of PO 504 (Personal Fitness & Healthy Living);
  4. be recommended by the appropriate Flt Comd; and
  5. be identified as a successful candidate through a merit review board process.

Promotion au grade d'adjudant de 2e classe (adj 2):

  1. compter au moins six mois de service au grade effectif de sergent de section;
  2. obtenir au moins la mention « Atteint sans difficulté » dans l’OREN 503 (Leadership);
  3. participer à l’Évaluation de la condition physique des cadets dans le cadre de l’OREN 504 (Bonne forme physique et vie saine);
  4. avoir la recommandation du cmdt son (esc); et
  5. voir sa candidature retenue à la suite du processus du conseil de mérite.

Warrant Officer First Class (WO1)

Rank - Warrant Officer First Class

To be promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer First Class (WO1), cadets must:

  1. have completed at least six months of service at the rank of Warrant Officer Second Class;
  2. be recommended by the appropriate Flt Comd; and
  3. be identified as a successful candidate through a merit review board process.

Promotion au grade d'adjudant de 1re classe (adj 1):

  1. compter au moins six mois de service au grade effectif d'adjudant de 2e classe;
  2. avoir la recommandation du cmdt son (esc); et
  3. voir sa candidature retenue à la suite du processus du conseil de mérite.
